The Canon LBP-870 looks like a fairly basic laser printer for the home and small office, but it has some versatility with its upgrade options. While its output speed is just average for its class, it will be a good fit for light-duty use. Even more important to an office's bottom line will be the savings on Canon LBP-870 printer toner over the life of the machine, compared to its more expensive competition. The LBP-870 can support a maximum paper size of A3 media, and can hold up to 250 sheets in its main paper tray, with a bypass tray that can hold up to 100 sheets. This can be expanded with a 250-sheet or a 500-sheet tray, or both, up to a maximum capacity of 1,100 sheets. This allows quite a bit of room for growth, and could keep it useful in a small office as the workload expands. The LBP-870 has a maximum speed of 16 pages per minute, which is a bit on the slow side, but it requires virtually no warm-up time, and its sleep mode uses very little power.
