Gotoners is committed to support environmental stewardship by keeping harmful chemicals and metals out of landfill and reducing illegal dumping by increasing participation in the recycling programs.

Recycling programs are sustained through the collection of an Environmental Handling Fee (EHF) enforced by provinces in Canada.

Environmental Handling Fees that are applied on the sale of all new electronic products. It is not a tax, nor a refundable deposit. The EHF on each item in the program is based on the actual cost to recycle the materials contained in the product. All program revenue is used for the collection, transportation and responsible recycling of end-of -life electronics as well as program administration.

We and all other Retailers are required to remit fees related to designated products to the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), Ontario Electronics Stewardship (OES) and the Electronic Products Recycling Association for British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Quebec, PEI and Saskatchewan directly.

Since the EHF are paid at the time you purchase a new computer, notebook, monitor, television and other applicable electronics (outlined by Province below) – so you won't need to worry about paying a Fee to recycle your end-of-life electronics.

  • Sales - For online orders, EHFs appear during checkout and are charged based on your shipping address.
  • Returns - The EHF on electronics is refundable on returns .
  • Exchanges - If a Printer, for example, is exchanged for another size of Printer, the final EHF will be based on the size of the second Printer.
  • HST Applicability - HST applies to the amount of the levy.

You will see the fee appear during checkout.

New Brunswick

As of June 1, 2017, the government of New Brunswick has mandated that the Environmental Handling Fee (EHF) must be included in the price for qualifying products, as shown on the receipt. That means when you look at your paper receipt in-store or the online invoice on BestBuy.ca, the price you see will include the EHF, instead of having the EHF listed separately.

The EHF-included price only appears on the receipt or online invoice. The price listed on the store shelf, online product description page, cart, or checkout summary page will show the EHF listed separately.

This policy only applies to products sold in New Brunswick Best Buy stores or online purchases that are shipped to New Brunswick. To learn more about the New Brunswick EHF program please visit the official site.
